Come rain or shine, Brixworth U13’s win The 2015 Moretonville Shield final in style against local favorites Moretonville Wanderers.
Having reached the semi-finals the year before, losing 1-0, this year Brixworth were determined to go one step further. They certainly achieved this and met the home team and their home support in the final. Brixworth had played Moretonville Wanderers earlier in the group stages and drew 0-0 in glorious bright sunshine. This meant that the final itself was sure to be a tight game and it was close battling final played in heavy rain. The rain was adding to the suspense as the ball was skidding of the surface at speed and would surely make any low shot difficult for the goalkeepers to judge.
The deadlock was broken with a superbly stuck corner kick that was drilled low into the area by Alex, it took a deflection of the unlucky Moretonville keeper’s leg, who had up to that point looked unbeatable. The goal settled Brixworth and it wasn’t long before it was 2-0. Yet another phase of good passing and movement from Brixworth saw Finlay unleash an powerful low shot accurately placed in the left corner. Finally, with what would be his last kick of the ball in a Brixworth shirt, Ed made it look easy scoring the third goal as the goalkeeper parried a shot that fell to his feet for a simple tap in. What to a way to sign off for the team!
