The 1st game was FFA and we thought this was going to be a real test, right from the whistle all of the boys were really up for it closing down and getting some good tackles in, FFA offered some resistance but gradually we were starting to dominate with Max, Ruben and Brandon putting in some robust challenges and Finley and Josh’s passing creating plenty of chances but nothing was going in. Then Josh picked up the ball deep in our half and decided to change things, after a brilliant solo run he scored a fantastic goal. The boys kept on pushing and then came a moment straight from the Barcelona training pitch, poor Harry in goal had been a bystander for most of the game but suddenly had a goal kick, Finley came short to receive it and Harry passed the ball out from goal, under pressure Finley turned and made a measured pass to Josh in midfield who quickly looked up and saw Callum running through and found him with a slide rule pass that Callum ran onto and scored!!!….one of the best team goals I’ve witnessed at Dallington. The boys were now well on top with Alex making a lot of the running and we were dominating the final few minuets but could we get a third….suddenly Max forced his way in to FFA’sarea and with the ball bobbling about made a sharp turn and slotted in the corner for his 1st league goal and it has to be said the celebration was up there with Callum’s!!!
A great effort from everyone, even though there were 3 substitutions made at half time the energy and determination, particularly when they didn’t have the ball, never changed in any of the boys.
2nd game was Wooton and despite a bit of a wait the boys were chomping at the bit to get going, this match followed the same pattern as the 1st with the boys chasing everything down and really pushing forward, Alex had been played in midfield and had made a couple of good runs down the right wing and then broke through with a great finish from a tight angle to put us 1-0 up. Finley was grafting away in midfield and made some excellent runs into the area ready for a cross from Alex but following another charging run down the right wing Alex unleashed an unstoppable shot that nearly took the back of the net out, to hit the ball that hard and accurate whilst running takes some skill. Finley’s hard work paid off as he found himself on the edge of the area and with the ball stuck to his feet he dribbled towards goal with a defender in hot pursuit, despite a robust challenge he managed to stay on his feet and shoot past the goalie for a great individual goal but then the ref blew the whistle and pointed to the penalty spot for the earlier challenge…..bit of a strange decision that neither Tony, I or the Wooton coach could work out but hey that’s football!? Joshua stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and shot just wide…..Joshua if your reading this there will be extra penalty practise on Saturday 🙂 It was a shame for both boys as their hard work had warranted a goal. As the game went on Brandon, Ruben and Josh were still working hard to win the ball back to create the platform for Alex to launch yet more right wing attacks which produced his hatrick goal quickly followed by his 4th to cap off a superb individual disply. Harry had a quiet time in both games but his goal kicking was excellent and a lot of our attacks were being started by him. Callum had been watching as a substitute in the 1st half and as he came on you could see he was determined to get his name on the score sheet and after some excellent chasing down of the Wooton defence he pounced to grabBrixworth’s 5th goal. Again we were breaking up any possession Wooton had with some great tackles from Max in midfield, from one of these Callum broke through to get his 2nd and Brixworth’s 6th and that was how it ended 6-0. Although it was a great performance by Alex all of the boys worked together as a team, Finley’s passing and support play, Joshua and Brandon supporting the attack but never forgetting their defencive duties, Max and Ruben winning the ball back in midfield, Callum chasing and harassing and finally Harry keeping his concentration and kicking well……an all round great team performance.
