The boys who had played the season at Dallington in the Mini League had managed to secure a place in the Cobblers Cup and even the torrential rain couldn’t dampen their spirits. As well as the weather we also had four decent teams to face that started with Soccer Utd, the boys soon got into the swing of things despite missing our star forward and we ran out 4-1 winners.
At the start of our next game there was a 10min delay due to the amount of surface water and it was only the hard work of the ground staff that the game went ahead, we were up against Kingswood Junior Eagles from Corby and it was a really close game, the Eagles took the lead with a well worked goal but then in the final 5mins we were pushing hard, however with the rain still falling our passing game was suffering due to the ball becoming stuck in the puddles and in the end we couldn’t find an equaliser.
West Haddon Juniors were next up and the boys had got the bit between there teeth and turned in an excellent performance and ran out comfortable winners.
Final game was Grange Park and this proved to be a fairly even battle and with a minuet to go the scores were level at 1-1 and as ever none of the boys gave up and their hard work paid off with a winning goal as the ref was about to blow.
A great day despite the awful weather and pitch conditions, as always with this group of players the effort was phenomenal, lets just hope for better weather at the remaining summer tournaments.
